Kick Off 2025 with Extraordinary Adventures! Good Afternoon,
Welcome to 2025 and a Happy New Year! As we kick off the New Year, I think it's time to venture beyond the beaten path and discover some hidden gems that make Norfolk truly extraordinary. Did you know that Norfolk is home to some of Britain's most intriguing historical sites? Imagine standing where our ancestors stood over 800,000 years ago at Happisburgh beach, where the oldest human footprints outside Africa were discovered. Or picture yourself climbing down into the Neolithic flint mines at Grimes Graves, marvelling at the ingenuity of Stone Age engineers! For a touch of Roman history, why not head to Burgh Castle near Great Yarmouth. Here, you'll find one of Britain's best-preserved Roman forts, with huge walls stretching up to 7 meters high and panoramic views of Breydon Water and the surrounding wildlife of Halvergate Marshes. If you’re a nature enthusiasts, prepare to be amazed by
the Pingo Trail near Watton. This 8-mile circular route takes you through a unique landscape shaped by the last ice age. You’ll walk in an area that has over 300 pond-like depressions called 'pingos'. And don’t forget the mysterious Seahenge at Holme-next-the-Sea. This 4,000-year-old Bronze Age timber circle, now preserved at Lynn Museum, continues to fascinate archaeologists and visitors alike about its particular function. If you’re ready to explore Norfolk's lesser-known places then check out this latest article - Unusual things to do in Norfolk beyond the tourist trail.
Next week you can find out all about how you can take a Norfolk walking holiday along the Peddars Way and/or Norfolk Coast Path or the Weaver’s Way.
Best wishes, Suzy P.S. Consider a stay in one of Norfolk's beach bungalows for a lovely coastal holiday. These bungalows offer an ideal base for exploring the east side of Norfolk. Read our article on Norfolk Beach Bungalows to learn more. |
