Good Afternoon,
Today I want to tell you about a fantastic walk entitled "The Burnhams' Circular Walk". This is an excellent opportunity to explore Norfolk's beautiful countryside, and a little bit of the coast - which we all love!
This particular 8-mile trail (it can be anything from 5.7 to 8 miles depending on whether you want to take short cuts which are detailed in the walking guide), will take you through a landscape rich in history. Starting in Burnham Overy Staithe, you'll eventually reach Burnham Thorpe, the birthplace of Admiral Lord Nelson. Don't miss the chance to visit the church where Nelson's father served as Rector, providing an insight into the early life of this naval hero. It's extremely fascinating. You'll also see various large flags that were hung from a couple of war ships.
As you keep going, you'll then come across the pretty Georgian village of Burnham Market, often referred to as "Chelsea-on-
Sea" due to its fancy boutiques and delightful eateries. Take a moment to stop here and treat yourself to a delicious meal, or just a coffee and cake!
The walk will take you on to St Mary's Friary and the distinctive round tower of St Margaret's Church which serves as a testament to Norfolk's abundant ecclesiastical heritage. Norfolk is home to 124 round tower churches, and this is one of them.
Throughout your walk, you'll have breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside. Rolling hills (is that even possible in Norfolk!), water meadows, and distant glimpses of the sea are the backdrop for this walk.
The Burnhams' Circular walk offers something for everyone.
This is one of the many growing coastal walks I have on the website. Check them out.
I hope you have a very happy Christmas and New Year, when I’ll be back to share more of Norfolk with you!
Best wishes,
Suzy
